Getting in Gear On Our ’40 Ford Pickup

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

We’ve been mulling over doing our own build for some time now. While on the hunt for something with classic Art Deco styling, we came across a 1940 Ford pickup in workable shape. It looked to be a fun one to hot rod, quicker than a car and with less parts, which fit the bill for “shop project” nicely; we decided to make a go of it. A short road trip later, the 70-year-old faded Ford was on its way to a new life.

On arrival, the truck was mainly just sheet metal, sitting on a Chevy frame. Within a few days, we tore it apart and sent it through our media blasting booth to remove all the rust and see exactly what we’d be working with; the sheet metal was coated in PPG epoxy primer after blasting to preserve it going forward. The diagnosis: fortunately the doors and fenders were in great shape, and the hood only needed a small patch and a few pinholes filled. The cab, running boards, and bed were going to need a little more TLC.

Due to the Chevy chassis that the truck came on, we had to locate a replacement. Another road trip was in order, this time to Kansas for a 35-40 Ford frame. Once back at the shop it was also stripped down, a few spots fixed and brackets removed (since the frame was a trailer at one time in its life), and into the blasting room it went. We followed with a coat of PPG industrial line paint in a custom-mixed cool gray with a slight blue tint, for a nice peekaboo under the body.

Fab work was about to get underway and the search was on for suspension parts and an engine…

Get Blasted at North Texas Customs

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Summer’s just around the corner – ready to get moving on that project car or truck? Start by getting blasted at North Texas Customs! If you’re the do-it-yourself type, media blasting is a quick and affordable first step that, when followed with an epoxy coat, will halt corrosion and let you take your time for the next stage of repair. Prefer to hand it over to the pros for step two? Blasting will reveal what work needs to be done and allow us to formulate a plan to meet your goals. There’s no time like the present: the longer your rusty metal sits, the worse it will progress – blast it and stop it today! Contact us or learn more on our media blasting page.

But we are definitely giving thanks for the business and can always sleep later ;)

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

We are hard at work on this *TOP SECRET* 1968 Camaro restoration project – what will be this year’s surprise Christmas gift to a father from his very loving family. There’s no doubt dad will be pretty excited to see the car he’s had for 41 years look new again. Likewise, we are excited to help make this dream a reality. So far we’ve stripped it down, media blasted, primed, done some metal work and more. Look forward to more pics as it comes along…

Here We Grow Again…

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

It’s only been a couple of years since we outgrew our last shop, and we are pleased to announce the acquisition of 4,200 sq. ft. of neighboring space, giving us some room to stretch out and better organize the place. Starting with the relocation of our office into the new area, we will follow with departmentalizing the shop to separate blasting and bodywork from sheet metal, mechanical and finish-out.

Our goal is to optimize workflow and provide better service to our customers. Having two divisions will create better efficiency in terms of moving things around, but it will also allow us to operate at full speed without worry of bodywork fallout interfering with clean processes like fabrication. Time is money – so saving one saves the other!

NTC is also now able to offer regular maintenance such as oil changes and check-ups, with an air-conditioned waiting area for customers to escape the Texas heat and shop noise. We welcome you to stop by and check out the changes; sign up for our new services or help fill in the new space with your project!
